The concept for this biographical book cover series was centered around the author’s place of origin, and features elements that directly reference those places. A papercraft technique was used to create a three dimensional landscape scene which would enforce the idea of the author’s setting and help achieve a sense of cohesiveness through out the series.

I chose to incorporate fences and other small icons to depict the author’s life and to help illustrate what kind of environment these literary legends were exposed to and how that had direct influence on some of the most famous stories in history.

Having quickly grown from a junior exploration company to a bonafide gold producer, the leading producer in Vietnam no less, Olympus Pacific Minerals came to us in need of a complete rebrand. Their rapid growth had left them with an array of logos and gold fields branded individually rather than sitting under one overall corporate banner.

Their new name was to be Besra. Which was particularly apt as the Besra hawk, a native of South East Asia, is a tenacious and agile hunter with superb vision; which fitted the company’s vision perfectly. Conveniently an illustrated Besra hawk’s head also sat perfectly with the final logo design.

Multiple variations of the logo were designed to enable the creation of a hierarchy that put Besra at the top and worked down to individual gold fields. The branding was rolled out across stationary, their website, internal signage, uniforms and even a cafe.

Task To create a new expression for Blue Bottle’s New Orleans Iced Coffee, extending the intimate Blue Bottle experience from carefully curated cafes to a carton, reaching a larger audience and standing out on shelves in mass retailers.
Scope Brand strategy, identity, and packaging design.
Solution The new design for Blue Bottle’s New Orleans Iced Coffee stays true to the heart of Blue Bottle, challenging coffee category cues while remaining modest and utilitarian. Pearlfisher has elevated Blue Bottle’s current equities and clarified their word mark to increase its stature, simplifying messaging on pack and playing up the Blue Bottle blue to increase shelf impact.

From 2008-2012 we worked with the Downtown Main Street Association of Encinitas, California to create an in-depth annual guide to the community’s downtown businesses and tourist attractions. It became the essential field guide for local landmarks, providing visitors and locals alike a one-stop pocket guide to Encinitas. The module we created has since been adopted by several other cities in the Great American Downtown association.

In this school project (supervised by Thomas Buxo) I was asked to make a book about one aspect of the internet as part of a book-series inspired by Stewart Brand’s Whole Earth Catalogue from the late 60s. My book consists of 61 monetary proposals received in my junk-folder over the course of 3 years. Proposals that most likely are spam. The content is divided into four sections (Inheritances, business proposals, lottery winnings and misc.) in a total of 108 pages.

The book is a reflection and investigation on these e-mails, exposing strange or funny sentences. At the same time, it is a comment to contemporary cynicism of internet-users (myself included) that would immediately dismiss these proposals as scams. In theory they could be true? The book takes on this theme by naively stressing the amount of money I could have potentially earned, given that these proposals were real.

Wishbone: Brand Development and Packaging Design

The client and project overview:
Earlier this year we gave ourselves a challenge: to re-imagine the traditional approach to packaging coffee and create something that we could share with our clients and friends - and so, Wishbone Brew was born. Conceptualized and created by the team at AKA and assembled together by hand, it’s been a long time in the making — but worth the wait in order to share & enjoy it with some of our favourite people.

The design and creative solution:
Our main objective was to re-think traditional packaging methodology. Used as a tool to showcase our ability to think & work beyond convention, we determined from the out-set that drawing inspiration from uncommon sources was essential to the success of the project. Cue the Terpentine: An attractive shape, an airtight seal, something unexpected. This container delivered on all counts, but how to break from the unfriendly, industrial, and for all intensive purposes toxic associations we as consumers have made with that form?

A bright yet soft colour pallette combined with elegant and approachable serif type helps soften the brand against the harshness of material. A quick sanding, prime, and dip in paint helps add some individuality among the products and re-enforces the handmade nature of the product, No two wishbones being exactly the same.

The Globe Theatre Stockon is currently being refurbished. Plans include saving as much of the original Art-Deco architecture. Including the Raked (tilted) stage. The only remaining stage of it’s kind in the UK. This has been reflected in the logo design.

The Publication will be handed out on the opening night, giving a brief history, branding guidelines, and current events. The art deco, and architectural theme runs throughout the publication.

The tickets use the stage dimensions, the logo takes advantage of this. The colours used throughout are found within the old interior design for the theatre.
